Police are searching for a woman from Kyambogo who is accused of pouring hot water on her four-year-old daughter during a dispute over rice, leaving the child with serious burn injuries.
According to police, the woman fled shortly after the incident and remains at large as investigations continue.
Addressing the case, police spokesperson Rusoke Kawala condemned the alleged assault, saying children should never be subjected to violence under the pretext of discipline.
“We urge parents, guardians, and relatives to prioritize the protection and welfare of young children and adopt non-violent discipline methods,” Kawala said.
In a separate case, officers at Kira Road Police Station have arrested a 32-year-old man over the alleged defilement of a six-year-old girl in Bukoto, Nakawa Division.
Police identified the suspect as Lewis Madibo, who is alleged to have committed the offence after visiting the child’s mother at her home. Investigators say the incident occurred late at night after the girl’s mother had fallen asleep. Madibo is being held in custody pending formal charges.
The latest incidents come amid growing concern over violence against children. In recent years, police have investigated several similar cases, including one in Kalungu District where a man allegedly burned his 14-year-old daughter over a missing Shs5,000, and another in Karamoja where a woman was accused of burning her six-year-old daughter’s hands over food.
With schools expected to close for the holidays, police have warned parents and guardians to remain vigilant, noting that cases of child abuse and sexual exploitation often increase during school breaks.
Kawala also urged communities to work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure children remain safe throughout the holiday period, stressing that protecting children is a shared responsibility.
