Three Injured After Kakise Bus Crashes Into Bridge in Soroti

Three people sustained serious injuries when a Kakise passenger bus crashed into a bridge at Opuyo Trading Centre in Soroti City during the early hours of Sunday.

The bus, registration number UAS 159P, was en route to Kampala from Soroti when the driver reportedly swerved to avoid knocking down a pedestrian before losing control.

Driver Alfred Ekongo and two other occupants were rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital for medical treatment.

Witness Isaac Olinga said residents had gathered nearby to watch a World Cup football match before the crash occurred.

“We were here at night watching a World Cup football game when we saw a group involved in a fight. As the altercation intensified, one of the boys tried to cross the road, only to collide with the Kakise bus,” he said.

“The accident happened in front of many people here. We may not blame the driver; he was trying to avoid hitting a man who was being chased and attempted to cross the road,” Olinga added.

The bus was later towed to Soroti Central Police Station as police began investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
